Study groups let you and other students work through the same course together. A group is attached to one course, has a member list and a member limit, and can be open or private.
Who can use study groups
Study groups need a TechExpo account — you have to be signed in to create, join or open a group. There is no public directory of groups yet: /study-groups lists the groups you are already a member of.
Study groups do not have their own menu entry in the dashboard — open the address directly and bookmark it once you have joined or created your first group.
Create a group
- Open /study-groups and click Create Group.
- Give the group a name and pick the course it is for — a course is required.
- Optionally add a description, set the member limit (the form allows 2 to 20 people) and mark the group private.
- Click Create Study Group. You are added as the owner and the group appears in your list straight away.
Join a group
- Open a group's page and click Join Study Group.
- Joining is safe to retry — if you are already a member you simply stay a member, and you are never counted twice.
- When the group has reached its member limit the button changes to Group Full and joining is refused.
- Private groups stay closed: they do not appear for people who are not already members, and cannot be joined from outside.
What a group page shows
- The course the group is for, its description, and whether it is private.
- The member list, with the owner highlighted.
- Any sessions the group has scheduled.
Good to know
- A group always needs a name, a course and a member limit of at least 2.
- Study groups help you coordinate. The learning itself happens inside the course — see Take a course: lessons, progress and completion.
- Study groups are not a support channel. For problems with a course or a payment, open a ticket from Dashboard → My Tickets.
